Coleman Akey Part of SUNY Adirondack's Nationally-Ranked Men's Soccer Team

2012 Sep 12

For the first time in SUNY Adirondack's history, the college's men's soccer team is a nationally-ranked top-ten squad.

On Tuesday (Sept. 11), The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) rated the Timberwolves as the 10th ranked Division III junior college team in the country.

And it won't take long for the Timberwolves to face a serious challenge to that ranking. On Friday (Sept. 14), the T-wolves host top-ranked Herkimer County Community College in a match on the home pitch at 4 p.m.

The Generals are the defending Division III NJCAA champions, have won eight national titles, and are currently ranked #1 nationally. Both squads are undefeated on the season: the Timberwolves are 6-0 and the Generals are 5-0.

Coleman Akey of Saratoga Springs, NY, is a member of the 2012 Timberwolf squad.

Success is quickly becoming a habit with the Timberwolves. The squad went 7-4-2 last season – its best record in 27 years – and earned a Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference playoff berth under second-year head coach Damien Jepson.

Jepson says a strong offense and team chemistry are the biggest keys to the current team's success.

"This has to be the strongest offensive team we've ever had," said Jepson. "We have weapons at every position. Other teams can't double-team us, because any of our players can erupt at any time."

With locations in Queensbury, Wilton, and online, SUNY Adirondack is a growing campus of the nation's largest university, the State University of New York. SUNY Adirondack annually serves more than 8,000 students via its credit and Continuing Education programs, including its signature Adventure Sports, Tech Valley Track, BusinessPass, and New Media options.
